Decorative art instead of portraits and sculptures

In the 9th-13th centuries sculptural arts still survived. Written sources inform that there were statues in wider squares in these centuries. The legend about painting the great scientist Avicenna's portrait also confirms the information that works of art were created in portrait genre even those times. According to the legend, Makhmud Ghaznavi had Avicenna's portrait drawn by Ibn-ar-raq and had it duplicated into several copies.

In the period of Temur and the Temurids fine arts experienced their real prosperous times. Rare works of art were created in the arts of miniature and fresco paintings. Sculpture showed itself mainly as reliefs.
